Couple Needed ~ Please Spread the Word

Update:  Wow, that was quick.  Thanks for getting the word out!
I’m sorting through the responses and will be contacting couples soon.

Hey there blogland — I’m currently looking for a fun-loving couple (engaged or married)* to help me by modeling for a cool new project!    Here are the details:
  1. The shoot would be outdoors in either Minneapolis or St. Paul on a weekend in March (I’m hoping to capture some snow but avoid the cold).
  2. You are willing to wear something fabulous (woman in wedding dress or nice dressy outfit, man in a suit or blazer). This isn’t a trash-the-dress type of shoot, but you might get a little dirty.  Nothing that wouldn’t be cleanable.
  3. You’re up for taking pictures where I want to shoot for about two hours.  (Nothing too crazy, mostly urban areas.)
  4. You’re a real couple, willing to show your love on camera!
  5. You are available one weekend day in March between 2 and 4pm.
In return for your time, you’ll get a DVD of your full-resolution digital files (a $500 value), the pictures posted in an online gallery to share with family and friends, and 10% off any prints you want to purchase through me.
Please send me an email with a picture of the both of you, and let me know which days you are available  in March!
*If this doesn’t apply to you, I’d appreciate if you could spread the word.

Postcards from Mexico

As the Twin Cities prepares to spend another weekend below zero, I thought it would be a good time to post a few scenes from my trip to Mexico a month ago.  Our destination? The Occidental Grand Flamenco Xcaret, about 15 minutes south of Playa del Carmen, on the Maya Riviera.  So many bright colors:

Lots of blue, turquoise and yellow:

A Minneapolis Bat Mitzvah

Here are a few sneak peek photos from a Bat Mitzvah I photographed this week.  First there were family portraits during a rehearsal early in the week at the Adath Synagogue in Minnetonka:

And then there was a beautiful, art-themed party at the Weisman Art Museum in Minneapolis.  Here’s Molly getting ready:

The Weisman was beautifully & colorfully decorated:

The catering, by Deco catering, was amazing.   Look at this beautiful salad (and the picture only shows a fraction of it — it was huge!)

There was a photobooth with instantly printed pictures and lots of fun props:

And lots of fun dancing!

And of course, a great hora:

Large Canvases

UPS just dropped off an order from a 16×20 canvas from a client’s August wedding.  I thought I would share some pictures of how pretty pictures can look when printed large and on canvas!

You can see in these pictures a bit of the canvas texture and how nicely wrapped the back is, ready for framing:

New Year’s Day Family Portraits in Mendota Heights

Earlier in the fall I was contacted by a bridesmaid from one of my spring weddings to see if I could take photos of her and her parents, children, and siblings sometime over the holidays.  It turned out the best time was early on New Year’s day.  And I can’t think of a better way to start 2009 — making beautiful images for this family to treasure for years to come.   Here’s a sneak peak of a handful of favorites:

2008 – My Year in Pictures

I don’t write enough about my personal life on this blog (sounds like a great resolution for 2009), so I thought I could share what non-photographic things kept me busy in the last year.   Looking back, it was a great (and busy) year!

January found me  . . .  skiing in Colorado.

Enjoying Cupcake Saturday

and taking a winning photo in the Punch Pizza photography contest.

Then in February, I started training with Team in Training for the Lifetime Triathlon.

I traveled to Keiv, Ukraine

Snowy Kiev, Ukraine

and to Israel

Winter was still in full force in March in Minnesota.   I watched a Polar Bear Plunge on Lake Calhoun:

And made another trip out to Colorado to ski some more.

April wasn’t very eventful!  I found some cute client photos that were pre-blog:

I also got a scanner and scanned one of my all-time favorite photos, from a rafting trip down the Arkansas river a decade ago.

Run, Pookie, Run

And then on the first nice day of the year, I went on a photowalk with other flickr photographers in Loring park, and happened on a group of guys doing all sorts of cool tricks on their bikes:

May started wedding season and heavy training for the triathlon, so my personal photos are few and far between.   Here’s a roast beef sandwich  from Maverick’s in Roseville.  Delicious.

And an awesome wedding workshop with David Beckstead.  Check out these bridal shots!

June included a family reunion out in Summit County, Colorado.  I brought my camera on a bike ride down Vail pass!

And hiking up Mayflower gulch:

July meant it was finally time for the triathlon!  One of our last Team in Training Practices:

August involved some travel for my day job up to Grand Rapids.

And of course, the state fair!

Minnesota State Fair

September was my busiest month for weddings by far.   I got some great aerial pictures of Minneapolis as I flew back from one of them:

In October, I flew out to NYC to  surprise my sister for her 30th birthday.

And I enjoyed the beautiful fall colors in my St. Paul back yard:

November included a trip out to Arizona for my dad’s 60th birthday.

And election day, (although the photo was taken during the state fair).

Home to the Quad Cities for our traditional thanksgiving beef tenderloin, yum!

This December has been so snowy and cold, but even still I’ve been out shooting, at night in uptown Minneapolis.

and an evening stroll through Rice Park, St. Paul:

And finally, a wonderful & relaxing trip to Mexico (for which I have a whole blog post coming).
