Now that it’s winter, I’ve been going through a lot of my old posts to create a new slideshow on my front page featuring my absolute favorite children’s images, and I realized I have a ton of sessions from last year that never hit the blog! They were featured on my facebook page (are you a fan?), but they deserve to be here, too. So here is a darling set of photos from last June, when I met up with Lainey and her mom at Minneahaha Falls park in Minneapolis for a morning portrait session. Lainey was so expressive and had fun exploring the park. I don’t know about you, but this post makes me long for flip flops, tank tops, and green grass!

August in January

A few weekends ago, I met up with August and his mom at Gold Medal Park for a few wintry photos before he turns 2 years old next month. While this has been the warmest winter I can remember since I moved in Minneapolis ten years ago, it is still hard for a little one to stay warm outside for long. So we soon moved inside to take a few more photos in the Guthrie’s big yellow box. August was a bit taken a back by the stunning view (and the translucent floor) but he soon warmed up and I got a images with that iconic backdrop.

A’s First Steps

I met up with this little guy and his parents at a park in our neighborhood at the tail end of fall month and caught his playful smile and some of his first steps on camera. Here are just a few of my favorites from that day:

But I’ll probably call him that forever. Some nicknames just stick, don’t they? A couple weeks back I met up with some internet friends of mine at Minnehaha falls on yet another gorgeous day to take some photos of their family of three. We’ve been seriously spoiled here in Minneapolis this autumn — I know could get used to this kind of light and natural color sticking around!

It’s hard to believe that I first started taking photos of this family back in 2008 when the youngest was just turning 1! They’re such big kids now and I had such fun exploring the Mississippi river front area with them on a gorgeous fall Sunday morning. Hunting for crickets and stalking fish, climbing in the mill ruins park, and telling lots of silly jokes.

I am so pleased to make this announcement! (It’s been hard keeping all of this good stuff a secret!).

As part of the fabulous Independent Wedding Association, I was involved in two styled shoots over the summer that are featured in the new quarterly magazine Hearten (together with photographer Becca Dilley). The first feature shows how stylish a church basement wedding can be and showcases the amazing food of the Chowgirls (including their modern take on jello molds and mini tater-tot hotdish!), Minnesota-shaped pies on a stick by Cocoa & Fig, Norwegian-inspired florals by Ashley Fox, and lovely paper — including a recipe-card guest book — by Armato Designs. For the second shoot, we did a modern take on Paul Bunyan and his Babe in the deep woods of a Minnesota State Park. You must check out the tackle-box and fishing-inspired florals by Sassafras Gardens, the locally-made jewelry by JWP Jewelry, and another amazing invitation suite by Amy Armato.

This has been the most beautiful September and October in Minnesota that I can remember. And I’ve been so busy taking advantage of the gorgeous trees and light by taking portraits of lots of wee ones. Here’s a session from a few weeks back, with lots more to share in the next few weeks!

The blog is back from summer vacation! There’s so much to share — lots of weddings, newborns, kiddos and more. I’ll start off with this back to school session for Joe, who has grown up so much since we met up two years ago. We took a few photos with him and the family dogs in the backyard, and then a few more pictures near a lake by his home.

Early last Sunday morning, I headed to Minnehaha parkway to meet up with Sophia and her mom for a photosession to mark her recent second birthday. We had a great time! We read some of her favorite books, pulled lots of leaves off of the trees, blew some bubbles, and caught up with Dora on mom’s iPhone.
